 Movies and Series to Stream

These are wonderful pieces to watch

“The Lady Bird Diaries” on Netflix

The progression of the US Presidency to include Civil Rights Acts and protection of Nature through ecological laws and developments. The sorrows of the Vietnam war. Eartha Kitt famously snd rightly speaks up at the Ladies Doers Luncheon. A story of an individual woman placed in historic times and  powerful places told through her POV doing what she decides is right while loving her man and defining her own place in history.

"The Story of Film: An Odyssey" by Mark Cousins

2011 Documentary; 15 episodes @ 1 hour each

where: Kanopy (through your library card)

where: Tubi (free to sign-up and watch, maybe has ads)

I am watching Series 1, Episode 15 - Cinema Today and the Future (2000's). The narrator talks about where film is currently going.

Since the New Millenium what is new, what is the gorilla. The reality came back - as documentaries - partly due to the camcorder footage of 911. Fiction cinema looked old hat in comparison. Reality was more dramatic than escapism.

Fahrenheit 9/11 by Michael Moore (2004) was a huge hit. President Bush was being filmed when he heard about the attacks on the Twin Towers. He captures 2004's most memorable movie moment about Power and Indecision.

"Great Expectations" by Alfonso Cuaron

1998 Fiction 1:51; movie; Ethan Hawke, Gwyneth Paltrow, Chris Cooper, Anne Bancroft, Robert De Niro

where: Max

Modernization of the Charles Dickens classic placing the story in the rural south and NYC. Finn becomes a successful artist whose work is represented by real drawings and paintings by Francesco Clemente, the 80s Italian darling.

"Paris, Texas" by Wim Wenders

1984 Fiction 2:25 movie

Harry Dean Stanton, Dean Stockwell, Nastassja Kinski, Aurore Clement, Hunter Carson

where: Max

Written by L.M. Kit Carson / Sam Shepard / Walter Donohue

Wonderful combination of German, French, European actors and crew with American actors and tech shot in Texas - from Big Bend to Northeast plains to Houston and the Los Angeles suburbs of Santa Clarita

So much better now than when I first saw it in the 80s.

“The Year Earth Changed”  by Tom Beard

2021 documentary; narrated by David Attenborough

Where: AppleTV

Vision of how the World improved immeasurably when mankind was under lockdown during the first year or do of Lockdown. Animals thrived; Sea creatures could communicate easily, Birds expanded their repertoire. Amen.
